Description
You join the Business Intelligence team and own the company's dashboards and reports. You will:
- Build and improve dashboards that show leaders how the business is performing
- Write SQL and Python to pull, clean and analyse data from several sources
- Sit with teams to understand their questions, agree the metrics, and turn them into reports
- Check data quality: validate, remove duplicates and reconcile report figures
- Document your work and present findings to technical and non-technical people
Qualifications & Skills
Must have 6
- A degree or equivalent in data science, analytics, statistics, computer science or a related field
- 3–5 years of hands-on work in data science, analytics or BI
- Strong SQL on large datasets, including complex queries
- Python for analysis and automation
- Dashboards built in Power BI, Metabase, QuickSight or similar
- Care for data quality, and the ability to explain insights simply
Nice to have 4
- Owned reporting or analytics in a past role
- Built data pipelines, or connected APIs
- Forecasting, statistical modelling or machine learning
- Worked in a remote team across time zones

The title says Data Scientist, but this is really a reporting job. ALX's data comes from several systems, and its leaders need clear dashboards to see how the business is doing. Your job is to pull that data together with SQL and Python, clean it so the numbers agree, and turn it into dashboards that teams check every week. When a team brings a question, you help them decide what to measure, then explain the answer in simple words.
Because the team works remotely across Africa, ALX needs someone who can work without supervision and communicate well on video calls. Their working hours run on GMT+2 to GMT+3, so your day would start an hour or two earlier than in Lagos. The best way to stand out is to show dashboards you built that people actually used, and what changed because of them. Machine learning is only a bonus here, so put your reporting work first.
